In 2007, Aaron Sims was cutting the grass at the house on 4336 Williams St., when him and Dawon Lynn were having a conversation about the house. They both wondered if Malcolm X really lived in the house, so they searched the FBI files and got the answer they were looking for.
2008 - 2014 was spent maintaining the yard, and going back and forth with City Hall to not destroy the house. In 2014, the team met with the Mayor and Council, and was awarded the house.
2015 - 2021, the team researched grants to rehab the home, and in 2021, we were approved for $380,850 from the Preservation Fund and $50,000 from the Ford Foundation. In 2022, the archeological dig was done at the house, and we received an archeological number. The house also was approved to be a historical landmark. In 2023, construction started, and July 2023 is the projected date for construction to be done and approved for a historical marker.
